Hey All! Fall is acting so professionally this year that there are hardly any leaves left on the trees. The caribou migration and the swallow migration all met up to watch the hundred million monarch butterflies try frantically to cover up the naked maple trees. There's a lot goin on. I recently played several shows of brand new material. I've never thought to do that before, but it felt great and I learned a lot about the songs and how they might work better. I'm writing and writing these days, reeling in songs as they come, trying not to judge them except by their own weird merits. I don't think I've ever had this much fun writing. With so much uncertainty, fear and pain in the world, I feel very lucky to be heading into Fall with so much to look forward to. Many Thanks! The album features friends and peers like Loudon Wainwright III, Bonnie Raitt, Dave Alvin, and Josh Ritter performing gems plucked from Smither’s deep catalog. Music fans know that Chris Smither has written a countless number of masterful songs during his 50-year career, but hearing this eclectic set of interpretations is a startling reminder of the depth of Smither’s catalog.” Get it now on: iTunes Amazon or on CD from Signature Sounds’ Bandcamp page In an interview with CMT Edge, Josh says about his cover of Rosalie: "Zack Hickman and Josh Kaufman did those harmonies and are also great guys. I wanted the vibe of the recording to be different in musical arrangement, but I wanted the living, breathing side of the Rosalie to reflect Smithers' own live delivery of the song. A lot can come through that is real when we stop trying to be precise." |
